Dr Kamalanath Samarakoon (Senior Lecturer, Department of Computer Engineering, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka) visited IIT Roorkee for a 2 days trip and visited different departments to strengthen ties between partner universities. During his visit, he interacted with the faculty members of several departments and visited the Institute Computer Centre (ICC), iHUB DivyaSampark and the international relations office
During his visit, Prof. K.K. Pant (Director, IIT Roorkee) signed the agreement (MoU) between the University of Peradeniya and IIT Roorkee. The signing was witnessed by Prof. P. Arumugam (Dean of International Relations). During the signing ceremony, Dr Ravikant Ranjan (Executive officer, International Relations Office) and Dr Shantanu Wahal (Executive officer, International Relations Office) were also present. Prof Samarakoon visited the International Relations Office and interacted with the staff members and discussed modalities of Internationalization between the University of Peradeniya and IIT Roorkee.
During his visit to the academic departments, Prof Samarakoon discussed the possibilities to promote institutional cooperation in academics and research-based collaboration between the two institutions. The discussions were also about faculty exchange, student exchange and joint degree programmes. These meetings were facilitated by the IR Office, IIT Roorkee.
Dr Samarakoon visited iHUB Divyasampark and interacted with Mr Manisha Anand (CEO, iHUB). Prof Samarakoon elaborated that he is also developing a similar facility at the University of Peradeniya.
Dr Samarakoon also visited the Institute Computer Centre (ICC) and discussed the facility and infrastructure with Prof Sanjeev Kumar (HoD, ICC). He visited the institute’s supercomputing facility “Param Ganga” and also interacted with facility staff members.
