A delegation from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee recently met with officials from Freie Universität Berlin (FU Berlin) to discuss potential collaborations between the two institutions. The delegation consisted of Director K.K. Pant, Dean of International Relations Prof. Vimal C. Srivastava, Prof. P. Arumuganm (Professor of Physics), Prof. Ankit Agarwal (Hydrology, Lead Project Investigation of Indo-German Project), and staff members Dr. Ravi Ranjan and Ravi Kumar.
At the meeting, the President of FU Berlin Prof. Dr. Günter M. Ziegler, Prof. Dr. Holger Dau from the Department of Physics, Prof. Dr Sutapa Chakrabit from the Department of Biology, Chemistry, Pharmacy, Dr. Herbert Grieshop, Director International Affairs, and Gesa Heym, Head of Unit Student Mobility, were present. The IITR delegation briefed the FU Berlin officials about the 175-year existence of IIT Roorkee, and Prof. Vimal C. Srivastava discussed international relations.
President Ziegler expressed the importance of India to FU Berlin and their desire for strong cooperation between the two institutions. The meeting explored the possibility of setting up mechanisms for student exchange, faculty exchange, and joint research collaborations. Both parties expressed interest in exploring avenues for joint research projects in the fields of Geosciences, Humanities and social sciences, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
The meeting ended on a positive note with both parties agreeing to explore various avenues of collaboration and work towards fostering a strong partnership between IITR and FU Berlin. This collaboration has the potential to create exciting new opportunities for both institutions and could lead to groundbreaking research in various fields.
