The International Relations Office at IIT Roorkee recently hosted Prof. Santosh Panda from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, USA. Prof. Vipul Silwal from the Department of Earth Sciences, IIT Roorkee, accompanied him during his visit and organized a seminar titled “Advances in Geospatial Data Science in Natural Resource Applications: Case Studies from Alaska,” where Prof. Panda shared his expertise with students and faculty about how government agencies, businesses, and every other sector of our society benefit from innovations in geospatial science and technology. Academics and entrepreneurs have found various creative ways to use geospatial science to advance science and societal well-being. The latest technology developments make way for new applications and geospatial technology convergence with other emerging tools. Dr. Panda also discussed recent advances in geospatial data science and its application in natural resources, presenting a few case studies highlighting its applications in Alaska.
During the visit, Prof. Panda, along with Prof. Sandeep Singh and Prof. Vipul Silwal from the Department of Earth Sciences, visited the International Relations Office. They had an engaging interaction with Prof. Vimal Chandra Srivastava, Dean of International Relations. The discussions focused on potential collaborative research projects, academic exchanges, and joint initiatives between IIT Roorkee and the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Prof. Srivastava emphasized the significance of interdisciplinary collaboration and the potential for impactful research outcomes. They discussed strategies for enhancing student mobility and creating robust frameworks for future joint initiatives. This meeting will help us collaborate effectively with UAF and leverage our strengths to address global challenges through innovative research and educational initiatives.
