The International Relations Office at the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, was honored to host Prof. Virender Kumar Sharma (Sharma Virender) from the University of Miami, USA. He was welcomed by Prof. Vimal Chandra Srivastava, Dean of International Relations, IIT Roorkee, along with Prof. PRAKASH BISWAS, Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering, and Prof. Basheshwer Prasad from the Department of Chemical Engineering, IIT Roorkee.
As part of his visit, the Department of Chemical Engineering organized a thought-provoking lecture on “High-Valent Iron (Ferrates) in Sustainable Environment and Human Health.” Prof. Sharma addressed pressing global issues such as climate change, water scarcity, microbial pathogens, and antibiotic contamination in water. He presented innovative solutions using environmentally friendly iron oxides and high-valent iron species (FeVI, FeV, FeIV), highlighting their potential in healthcare disinfection, toxic metal coagulation, and water treatment, paving the way for sustainable environmental and public health solutions.
Beyond the lecture, Prof. Sharma visited the International Relations Office, where he had an engaging discussion with Prof. Vimal Chandra Srivastava and Prof. Anil Kumar Mishra from the Department of Chemistry. Their exchange centered on exploring collaborative opportunities between IIT Roorkee and the University of Miami, including joint research projects, faculty and student mobility programs, and academic partnerships.
