Visit of Prof. Chris Zevenbergen from TU Delft, The Netherlands to IIT Roorkee

The Civil Engineering Department and the Department of Water Resources Development & Management (WRDM) at Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee recently hosted Prof. Chris Zevenbergen from the Department of Hydraulic Engineering, Faculty of Civil Engineering at TU Delft | Mechanical Engineering, Netherlands, under the DST-NWO Indo-Dutch Project. Prof. Zevenbergen was invited under the project “Restructuring and Enhancing Strategies with a Transformative Approach for Integrated Water Disaster Management in India and the Netherlands—RESTARTIN” sponsored by DST-NWO Indo-Dutch.

During his visit, the Civil Engineering and WRDM Departments jointly organized a geospatial lecture series where Prof. Zevenbergen shared his research ideas on the “Changing Landscape of Flood Risk Management” with our students. His lecture provided valuable insights into the evolving strategies and innovative approaches in flood risk management, addressing the challenges of climate change and urbanization.

Additionally, Prof. Idhayachandhiran Ilampooranan from Department of Water Resources Development & Management – IIT Roorkee, Prof. Siddhartha Khare from the Civil Engineering Department, Prof. Kasiviswanathan K S from WRDM, and Prof. Diptimayee Nayak from Humanities and Social Sciences visited the International Relations office to introduce Prof. Chris Zevenbergen. They had an engaging discussion with Prof. Vimal Chandra Srivastava, Dean of International Relations, IIT Roorkee, regarding the prospects of Indo-Dutch relationships and the potential for a Joint Degree program. The meeting focused on exploring collaborative research opportunities, faculty and student exchanges, and strengthening the academic partnership between IIT Roorkee and TU Delft.
