Indo-French Symposium (University of Lorraine, France) on Biochar: Black is the New Green at IIT Roorkee

IIT Roorkee recently hosted the Indo-French Symposium on Biochar: Black is the New Green, jointly organized by Prof. Nicolas Brosse (University of Lorraine, France) and Prof. Sonal K. Thengane (Department of Hydro and Renewable Energy, IIT Roorkee). This symposium provided a platform for faculty members and students at IIT Roorkee to interact with the visiting French delegation, engaging in insightful discussions on emerging trends in biochar research, sustainable energy solutions, and potential academic collaborations. For students, this was a remarkable opportunity to learn from and network with leading international researchers, gaining exposure to cutting-edge global research perspectives.

As part of this symposium, a French delegation of eminent researchers visited IIT Roorkee. The delegation included:

  • Suzanne Reynders (INRAE, France)
  • Alfredo Napoli (CIRAD, France)
  • Roger Gadiou (Univ Haute-Alsace-CNRS)
  • Anthony Dufour (LRGP, Univ de Lorraine)
  • Isabelle Ziegler-Devin (Univ de Lorraine)
  • Cloe Paul Victor (INRAE)
  • Nicolas Brosse (Univ de Lorraine)

During their visit, the delegation interacted with Prof. Vimal Chandra Srivastava, Dean of International Relations, at the International Relations Office. The discussion focused on the recently established MoU between IIT Roorkee and the University of Lorraine, aiming to deepen research collaborations in biochar, renewable energy, and sustainable materials.

Prof. Srivastava emphasized that this MoU serves as a foundation for expanding joint research initiatives, faculty and student exchanges, and collaborative projects between the two institutions. He highlighted the potential for co-supervised PhD programs, joint research proposals for international funding, and the development of cutting-edge technologies in biochar and sustainable energy solutions. The delegation expressed keen interest in leveraging the expertise of both institutions to drive impactful research in these critical areas.

The delegation also explored state-of-the-art laboratories across various departments at IIT Roorkee, further strengthening the commitment to scientific and academic collaboration.
