Prof. Vikas Berry’s Visit to IIT Roorkee and Lecture on Advancements in Graphene Engineering from University of Illinois Chicago, United States

Prof. Vikas Berry, Satish C. & Asha Saxena Professor and Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Illinois at Chicago, visited IIT Roorkee on 7th April 2025. During his visit, Prof. Berry held a meeting with the Dean of International Relations, Prof. Vimal Chandra Srivastava, at the International Relations Office to discuss potential collaborations and exchange opportunities between IIT Roorkee and the University of Illinois at Chicago. The discussion explored various avenues for academic and research cooperation to benefit both institutions.

Following the meeting, Prof. Berry, accompanied by Prof. Vimal Chandra Srivastava, visited the Department of Chemical Engineering, where they met Prof.  Prasenjit Mondal, Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering, Prof. Ashwini Kumar Sharma, and other faculty members of the department. This interaction emphasized the potential for collaborative research in advanced fields such as graphene quantum materials and bio-nanotechnology, paving the way for future partnerships.

As part of his visit, the Department of Chemical Engineering organized a lecture where Prof. Berry delivered an insightful talk on “Engineering Graphene and 2D Materials’ Chemistry and Interfaces for Energy and Biomedical Applications.” The lecture, attended by faculty members and students, explored cutting-edge advancements in graphene engineering, bio-interfaces for biomedical applications, porous liquids for enhanced lithium-ion conductivity, and organometallic approaches to functionalize graphene.
