Visit of Representative of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey to IIT Roorkee

On 24.07.2025, Prof. Riddhiman Sarkar, representing the Office of International Collaborations & Strategic Initiatives at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, visited the International Relations Office of IIT Roorkee. During the visit, he met with Prof. Vimal Chandra Srivastava, Dean of International Relations, to explore avenues for deepening international cooperation between the two institutions. Prof. Tapas Kumar Mandal from the Department of Chemistry, IIT Roorkee, who did post-doctoral research at Rutgers, was also involved during discussions.

The discussions primarily revolved around strengthening research collaborations in cutting-edge areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, Sustainability, Chemistry, and Chemical Sciences. Both sides expressed a strong interest in initiating joint research projects that leverage their complementary strengths and shared commitment to advancing innovation and global impact.

As part of his visit, Prof. Riddhiman Sarkar also toured the iconic James Thomason Building, the Main Building of IIT Roorkee, appreciating the institute’s rich heritage and academic legacy.

As a significant outcome of the meeting, it was agreed to formalize the partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between IIT Roorkee and Rutgers University. A draft version of the MoU has already been shared and is currently under review. Implementation of the agreement is expected soon, marking the beginning of a promising phase of academic and research cooperation.
