On August 1St, 2025, Dr. Silpa A. S., Department of Earth Science, at Shimane University, Japan, visited the Department of Earth Sciences at the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee. During her visit, the Department arranged a lecture titled: “Geochemical Evolution of Subcontinental Lithospheric Mantle”.

Dr. Silpa’s lecture offered deep insights into mantle geochemistry, isotope systems, and the evolution of lithospheric domains, drawing from her extensive research on the Archean Dharwar craton and Japanese island arc volcanism. Students got the opportunity to interact, and faculty members actively participated. The session concluded with an engaging question-and-answer segment, where students and researchers discussed various aspects of mantle processes and geochemical modeling.

During her visit, Dr. Silpa also visited the International Relations Office, along with Prof. Sandeep Singh, Head of the Department of Earth Sciences. They met with Prof. Vimal Chandra Srivastava, Dean of International Relations, to explore future academic collaborations between IIT Roorkee and Shimane University. The meeting highlighted opportunities for joint research, student exchange, and interdisciplinary projects in geosciences. Discussions focused on fostering long-term partnerships through collaborative field studies, joint workshops, and integrated academic programs that would benefit students and researchers from both institutions. They also discussed the possibility of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the near future to formalize and strengthen the collaboration between the two institutions.
