Texas A&M University, USA Delegation Visit to IIT Roorkee

The International Relations Office, Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, recently hosted a delegation from Texas A&M University, United States, during their visit to IIT Roorkee from 8th to 14th February 2026. The delegation comprised Prof. Arul Jayaraman, Executive Associate Dean at Texas A&M University, and Prof. Faisal Khan, HOD of Chemical Engineering at Texas A&M University.

As part of the visit, a high-level meeting was held with Prof. K. K. Pant, Director IIT Roorkee, along with the Deans, including Prof. Rahul Dev Garg, Dean of Resources and Alumni Affairs IIT Roorkee; Prof. Deepak Khare, Dean Finance & Planning; Prof. Indra Vir Singh, Dean Administration; Prof. Naveen Kumar Navani, Dean of Academic Affairs; Prof. Barjeev Tyagi, Dean of Students’ Welfare; and Prof. Anand Bulusu, Dean (Faculty Affairs). The meeting was also attended by Prof. Vimal Chandra Srivastava, Head, Centre for Sustainable Energy; Prof. Dr. Sanjay H. Upadhyay, Centre for Space Science & Technology; Prof. Amit Agarwal, Associate Dean (Corporate Interaction); and Prof. Anil Kumar Gupta, Professor (WRDM), IIT Roorkee, for ICARS – Gr Noida Campus, NCR (India).

Key areas explored included student exchange programmes, industry–academia partnerships, space science, cybersecurity, safety engineering, wastewater management, sustainable semiconductor technologies, and bilateral research initiatives.

Prof. Faisal Khan emphasized opportunities to enhance IIT Roorkee’s engagement with industry, particularly through applied research and programmes such as M.Tech. (VLSI). Prof. Pant expressed strong interest in developing long-term, outcome-oriented collaborations in emerging domains. Prof. Jayaraman highlighted possibilities for innovative academic pathways, including six-month diploma programmes and 4+1 integrated programmes leading to Ph.D. opportunities.

The delegation also visited the International Relations Office, where they met Prof. KARUN RAWAT, Dean of International Relations, IIT Roorkee, as well as faculty members and IR staff. Discussions centered on concrete collaboration opportunities, including joint research projects, faculty and student mobility, and sustainable institutional partnerships.

In addition, the delegation visited the Centre for Space Science & Technology and interacted with Prof. S. H. Upadhyay and faculty members to explore cooperation in space science research and advanced technologies. They also visited the Department of Chemical Engineering, meeting Prof. P. Mondal, Head, Department of Chemical Engineering, IIT Roorkee, and faculty members to discuss collaborative research in sustainable chemical processes, safety engineering, and industry-linked programmes.

The visit marked an important step toward strengthening academic, research, and innovation ties between IIT Roorkee and Texas A&M University.
