Strengthening Indo-Nepal Academic Ties: Nepal Delegation Visit to IIT Roorkee

The International Relations Office, IIT Roorkee, hosted a distinguished delegation from Nepal, including Prof. Hem Raj Pant, Vice Chancellor, Far Western University; Prof. Dev Raj Adhikari, Chairperson, University Grants Commission, Nepal; and Prof. Govind Bist, along with other officials.

During their visit, the delegation interacted with the Dean of International Relations, IIT Roorkee, Prof. KARUN RAWAT, to explore avenues for strengthening academic and research collaboration. Key discussions focused on simplifying course mapping and credit transfer mechanisms for Nepalese students under student exchange and Joint Degree Programs (JDPs). The dialogue also included plans for developing international summer/winter school programs, enhancing structured student mobility initiatives, and organizing joint workshops and academic engagements to foster deeper institutional collaboration.

The dialogue also emphasized increasing international student participation through full-time programs, short-term courses, and structured exchange opportunities. Both sides highlighted the importance of creating awareness about multiple admission pathways and positioning short-term academic engagements as a gateway to long-term study at IIT Roorkee.

A formal meeting was held in the Board Room of the James Thomson Building, chaired by the Director IIT Roorkee, Prof. K. K. Pant, in the presence of the Dean (Academic Affairs), Prof. Naveen Kumar Navani; Dean (International Relations), Prof. Karun Rawat; and Prof. Shabina Khanam, Department of Chemical Engineering, IIT Roorkee. The meeting underscored the need to strengthen global outreach for faculty and students, enhance participation in international research networks, and foster strategic academic partnerships through joint programs, collaborative research, and innovation-driven initiatives.

The visit concluded with a tour of the Department of Chemical Engineering, where the delegation met Prof. Prasenjit Mondal and interacted with faculty members, gaining insights into ongoing research activities, infrastructure, and academic ecosystem at IIT Roorkee.
