IIT Roorkee Welcomes Dr. Manoj Sharma, Vice President, HSE University, Russia

The International Relations Office, Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, recently hosted Dr. Manoj Sharma of HSE University, St. Petersburg, Russia to explore new avenues to strengthen academic, research, and innovation-driven collaboration between the two institutions.

The visit commenced with a meeting at the Office of the Dean (International Relations), where Prof. KARUN RAWAT, Dean (IR), along with Prof. Pradumn Pandey, Head, ICC; Prof. Vishvendra Singh Poonia; Prof. Anshul Jaiswal (Department of ECE); Dr. Neetesh Kumar; Prof. Awanish Pandey, and Prof. Raghvendra Singh Rohit (Department of CSE); engaged in comprehensive discussions with Dr. Sharma. The deliberations focused on expanding institutional collaboration through faculty and student exchange programmes, joint research initiatives, academic mobility, and collaborative teaching. Both sides explored opportunities for cooperation in emerging areas such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cyber Security, Drone-to-Drone Communication, Visual Communication Systems, and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) Communication, Climate Change, and Sustainable Technologies. Discussions were also held on nominating IIT Roorkee faculty members as Digital Professors to deliver online courses and lectures for international students at HSE University, thereby promoting global knowledge sharing and virtual learning. As a key outcome of the meeting, both institutions agreed to initiate a Letter of Intent (LoI) to establish a formal framework for future academic and research collaboration.

As part of the visit, Dr. Sharma toured the Department of ECE, where he met Prof. Sanjeev Manhas, Head, ECE, and interacted with faculty members to discuss collaborative opportunities in emerging technologies and advanced research. During the visit, Prof. Meenakshi Rawat guided Dr. Sharma through the department’s state-of-the-art laboratories, including the Intelligent Complex Computing & Network Laboratory, where he interacted with students working on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), the Optical Laboratory, and the Software Defined Radio (5G Innovation) Laboratory. The laboratory tour showcased the department’s cutting-edge research facilities, ongoing research projects, and innovation ecosystem. Subsequently, Dr. Sharma visited the Department of Electrical Engineering, where he met Prof. Bhavesh Bhalja, Ph.D., and faculty members to explore potential partnerships in teaching, research, innovation, and academic exchange.

The visit concluded with a courtesy meeting with Prof. K. K. Pant, Director IIT Roorkee, in the presence of Prof. KARUN RAWAT, and Prof. Amit Agarwal, (ADCI). The meeting provided strategic direction for advancing collaboration between IIT Roorkee and HSE University, with a focus on joint research, academic exchange, innovation, and capacity building.
