Prof. R. Balasubramanian Visits NTNU, Norway, for Academic Engagement

Prof. R. Balasubramanian, Head, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee, recently visited the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Gjøvik, Norway, from 21 to 26 September 2026, for academic engagement, knowledge exchange, and discussions on collaborative research initiatives.

During his visit, Prof. Balasubramanian delivered a keynote address titled “AI in Lung Cancer Screening and Therapeutics (with Introduction to Radiomics & Radiogenomics)” at the 13th Colour & Visual Computing Symposium (CVCS 2026) and the CapsNetwork and CapsTrain Workshop 2026, hosted at NTNU, Gjøvik, Norway. His keynote focused on the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in advancing lung cancer screening and therapeutic approaches, highlighting the relevance of radiomics and radiogenomics in medical image analysis and data-driven healthcare research.

The address provided an opportunity to discuss the growing significance of AI-based computational techniques in medical applications, particularly in supporting the analysis of medical imaging data and exploring new approaches to cancer screening and treatment. The integration of computer science, machine learning, medical imaging, and healthcare research represents an important area of interdisciplinary academic engagement, with potential to contribute to ongoing developments in intelligent healthcare systems.

During the visit, Prof. Balasubramanian also held technical discussions with Prof. Kiran Raja of NTNU, Norway, concerning the ANRF and LOTUS projects. These discussions focused on technical aspects and research-related matters associated with the projects, providing an opportunity for academic interaction and the exchange of ideas on ongoing research initiatives.
