An international Project under ‘Indo-German Partnership in Higher Education (IGP)’ titled “Co-PREPARE: Collaborative Indo-German PRoject on Estimating and Predicting NAtural Hazards in Himalayan REgion” is jointly funded by UGC and DAAD. Co-PREPARE facilitates a strategic partnership between the University of Potsdam (UP), Germany and the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, India. The project has two main component – internationalization and research (Estimating and Predicting Hazard in Himalayan Region). An overview of the project can be found at Co-PREPARE website.
The Co-PREPARE kick-off meeting and workshop took place online on November 9, 2020 between IITR and UP that aimed to interact with the project personnel and international relations team to draw attention towards themed research area and internationalization between both the university. The President of UP (Prof. Oliver Günther) and Director of IITR (Prof. Ajit K. Chaturvedi) graced the event by their introductory speeches. Project leader Dr. Ugur Ozturk, and Dr. Roopam Shukla briefed about the Co-PRPARE project through an impressive presentation on the project motivation and objectives. Project PIs Prof. Ankit Agarwal and Prof. Axel Bronstert of both the university formally introduced themselves to all the attendees and shared the themed research aspects of the project. As this project holds the major component of the internationalization, the administrative personnel Claudia Rößling (Head of Welcome Center, UP), and Prof. P. Arumugam (Dean of International Relations, IITR) gave a glimpse of their institutional profile and discussed the scope of mobility strength through this project.
The researchers involved in Co-PREPARE project Prof. Manoj Jain, Prof. Oliver Korup, Prof. Sumit Sen, Prof. Bruno Merz, and Dr. Wolfgang Schwanghart introduced themselves by sharing short summary of their research work and the workshop was ended with the presentation of themed PhD projects by the two students.
In continuation with this event, an online lecture series named ‘UDAN: Understanding the Dynamic of the Natural Hazards in the Himalayas‘ was organized on November 13, 2020. The first UDAN lecture was delivered by Prof. Jagdish Krishnaswamy, Senior Fellow, Centre for Biodiversity and Conservation, Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE) on “Emerging eco-climatic hazards in the Himalayas”. All interested people are welcome to join the upcoming UDAN lecture series notified on Co-PREPARE website.
