Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee), organized the First International Alumni meet in Nepal, on June 9, 2022 at Aloft Hotel, Thamel, Khatmandu, while commemorating the 175th year of IIT Roorkee’s foundation.
The Alumni meet-Nepal included presentations, felicitations, and cultural events giving a glimpse of the ornate past and glorious present of the IIT Roorkee family. A movie by students of the cultural council of IIT Roorkee was released
Besides IIT Roorkee holding worldly importance, I would like to point out the similar cultural teachings and traditions that we share with India and events like IIT Roorkee’s Alumni meet will only strengthen the shared vision of collaborating in academia in making our youth ready for the challenges of 21st century.

The event witnessed the participation of the Hon’ble Minister, Shri. Devendra Paudel, Minister of Education, Science and Technology (Nepal), as Chief Guest and Counsellor for the Indian Embassy, Kathmandu Shri Prasanna Shrivastava as Guest of Honor. The event was addressed by Mr. Umesh Bahadur Malla, President , IITR Alumni Association Nepal and Mr. Basu Dev Pokhrel, Secretary, IITR Alumni Association Nepal. From IIT Roorkee, Director, Prof. Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi, Deputy Director, Prof. M Parida, Dean of International Relations, Prof. P. Arumugam , Dean of Resources and Alumni Affairs Prof. Partha Roy, Professor and Head of the Department Ashish Pandey, Professor R. P Saini, Prof. Avolokita Agarwal, One executive officer of International Relations office Dr. Himadri Phukan and Mr Ravi Kumar, Technical Lead along with four Staff from DORA office joined the event at Kathmandu.
More than 350 Alumni from Nepal attended the Event. It was a Landmark event that connected IIT Roorkee Alumni from the early sixties under the same roof. Fifteen senior Alumni were felicitated in the event by the Director, IIT Roorkee. As a part of the program, a few Alumni shared their journey in IIT Roorkee and made the audience nostalgic by taking them down the memory lane. The event was followed by a cultural program showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Nepal.
