IIT Roorkee Hosts Prof. Joerg Schilling from Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, Germany

The Optica Student Chapter IIT Roorkee, in collaboration with the Department of Physics and the Centre for Photonics and Quantum Communication Technology (CPQCT), had the privilege of hosting Prof. Joerg Schilling from The Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg, Germany, on 6 July 2026.

Prof. Schilling delivered an engaging lecture titled “Creating a Second-Order Nonlinearity by Breaking Symmetry: The Hunt for χ² in Silicon Photonics,” where he shared pioneering research on inducing second-order nonlinearity in silicon and its transformative potential for next-generation integrated photonic devices.

During his visit, Prof. Schilling, accompanied by Prof. Sachin Kumar Srivastava, Department of Physics, IITR, met with Prof. KARUN RAWAT, Dean of International Relations, IIT Roorkee, to discuss opportunities for strengthening academic and research collaboration between the two institutions. The visit also featured interactive laboratory tours and insightful discussions with students and researchers, fostering scientific exchange, innovation, and international partnerships in optics and photonics.
