The International Relations Office, IIT Roorkee, hosted Prof. Ganesh N Pandian, Head, Institute for Integrated Cell-Material Sciences (iCeMS) and INitiative for INtelligent ChemBioInformatics (IN-CBI), Kyoto University, Japan. Prof. Pandian visited IRO along with Prof. Gopinath Packirisamy, Department of Biosciences & Bioengineering, and Prof. M. Sankar, Head, Centre for Nanotechnology, IIT Roorkee, and interacted with Prof. KARUN RAWAT, Dean of International Relations, IIT Roorkee, to explore opportunities for strengthening the institutional partnership between Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee and Kyoto University.
The discussions focused on developing a broader and structured institute-level collaboration encompassing education, research, student and faculty mobility, infrastructure, and industry engagement. Key proposals included establishing a joint Centre of Excellence/Facility Centre, exploring a Campus-in-Campus framework, and examining the feasibility of Joint Degree and Accelerated Master’s programmes, initially involving a small cohort of students from multiple departments. Potential interdisciplinary research themes identified included Agentic AI, semiconductors, quantum science and technology, and advanced research clusters.
Prof. Pandian also met with Prof. K K Pant, Director IIT Roorkee, along with Prof. Karun Rawat, Prof. P. Gopinath, and Prof. M. Sankar. The meeting further explored strategic avenues for joint research, academic programmes, student mobility, and long-term institutional engagement. The visit marked a significant step towards developing the existing IIT Roorkee–Kyoto University relationship into a more comprehensive, multidisciplinary, and sustained institutional partnership.
