On 30th October 2024, the International Relations Office at IIT Roorkee warmly welcomed an esteemed delegation from Japan. The distinguished visitors included:
- Prof. Tatsuya Ishikawa, Hokkaido University
- Prof. Kazunari Sako, Kagoshima University
- Prof. Kasama Kiyonobu, Kyushu University
The delegation, accompanied by Prof. Srikrishnan Siva Subramanian from IIT Roorkee’s Centre of Excellence in Disaster Mitigation and Management, engaged in insightful discussions with Prof. Vimal Chandra Srivastava, Dean of International Relations. Key topics included collaborative research in soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering, with an emphasis on innovative approaches to resilience and sustainable development.
This visit also reinforced our ongoing partnership with Hokkaido University, with which IIT Roorkee already holds a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The discussions further strengthened the foundation for collaborative research, student exchanges, and faculty interactions between our institutions, marking an important step in solidifying our relationship.
In addition, this visit served as a pivotal introduction to future partnerships with Kagoshima University and Kyushu University. Though IIT Roorkee does not currently have formal agreements with these institutions, we are optimistic that this initial engagement will pave the way for establishing a generic MoU in the future, creating opportunities for joint research and academic exchanges.
