The IR Office at the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee successfully hosted the ASEAN DIA Summit 2025 from February 13th to February 15th, 2025. This prestigious event brought together students from ASEAN countries, including, Myanmar, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. The summit aimed to foster academic and cultural exchange among ASEAN students and India. Prof. Vimal Chandra Srivastava, Dean of International Relations, IIT Roorkee, warmly welcomed all ASEAN students and played a key role in facilitating the summit and its activities.
The ASEAN DIA Summit 2025 concluded with a grand ceremony on February 15th, 2025, held at the Department of Chemical Engineering, IIT Roorkee. The event was attended by distinguished guests, including Prof. U.P. Singh, Deputy Director (Officiating Director), IITR as Chief Guest; Mr. Jakarin Treedara, Second Secretary, Royal Thai Embassy as the Guest of Honor; Prof. Nomesh Bolia, National Coordinator, ASEAN-DIA Program; Dr. Akshay Dvivedi, Dean SRIC; and Prof. Vimal Chandra Srivastava, Dean IR, and esteemed faculty members, delegates, and participants. The dignitaries delivered insightful speeches emphasizing the significance of international collaboration and the role of such summits in strengthening academic and cultural ties. Special emphasis was placed on the strong relationship between IITR and ASEAN countries, with discussions on potential future collaborations in research, student exchange programs, and technological innovation.
During their stay at IITR, the visiting students explored the institute’s historical and academic landmarks, including the James Thomason Building, the Central Library, the Museum, and the IITR Campus. To provide an enriching experience, IIT Roorkee organized various activities that showcased Indian culture and academia. One of the highlights was a bonfire event designed to foster camaraderie among participants. As part of the summit, the delegation visited Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya (DSVV), Haridwar, where they explored Gayatri Temple, Brahmavarchas Research Institute, University Library, Meditation and Yoga Halls, Green and Eco-Friendly Campus, Amphitheater and Cultural Center, and Handmade Paper Training Center. Additionally, the students visited Rishikesh, where they attended the serene Ganga Aarti, a mesmerizing spiritual ritual on the banks of the River Ganges. During this cultural excursion, Ms. Vineeta Asthana, Secretary of ASEAN DIA Fellow, and the IITR IR Office team accompanied the students to make the ASEAN students understand Indian Culture.
The summit concluded with heartfelt gratitude to all the chief guests; faculty; Ms. Vineeta Asthana, participants; the IR Office team; Ms. Imane Elouaghzani, and supporting members for their efforts in making the ASEAN DIA Summit 2025 a resounding success.
