IIT Roorkee Hosts Curtin University, Perth, Australia Students under the New Colombo Plan

The International Relations Office at IIT Roorkee was pleased to host six undergraduate students from Curtin University, Perth, Australia, for a three-week research visit from 30 November 2025 to 20 December 2025 under the Australian Government’s New Colombo Plan (NCP) program. The group was led by Dr. Suman Rakshit (PhD Statistics), Faculty of Science and Engineering, Curtin University, Australia.

This was the second batch of Curtin University students visiting IIT Roorkee under the NCP initiative, jointly coordinated by Associate Prof. Ritu Gupta from Curtin University and Prof. Kusum Deep from Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee as part of their ongoing academic collaboration.

During the visit, the six students worked under the supervision of Prof. Kusum Deep, Department of Mathematics, and Prof. Balasubramanian Raman, Department of Computer Science & Engineering. They gained valuable hands-on research experience in nature-inspired optimization techniques and artificial intelligence, with applications to real-world problem solving. The program offered them rigorous project engagement, close interaction with faculty mentors, and meaningful exposure to IIT Roorkee’s vibrant research environment.

The visit highlighted the significance of short-term international mobility programs in providing practical research experience to students while fostering long-term institutional collaborations. It strengthened the bilateral academic and research ties between Curtin University and IIT Roorkee.

During their stay, Dr. Suman Rakshit and the student delegation visited the Office of International Relations along with Prof. Kusum Deep and Prof. R. Balasubramanian. They met with the Dean of International Relations, Prof. Vimal Chandra Srivastava, to discuss ongoing collaborations and explore future partnership opportunities.
