Visit of Prof. Oliver Günther, President of the University of Potsdam to IIT Roorkee

Professor Oliver Günther, President of the University of Potsdam, Germany visited IIT Roorkee on Jan 14, 2022. Prof. Günther’s visit involved several intensive discussions with faculty members and researchers of Department of Hydrology, Centre of Excellence in Disaster Mitigation and Management (CoEDMM), Deans and the Director of IIT Roorkee.

Prof Günther was welcomed at the Department of Hydrology by the Head of the Dept. Prof Brijesh K Yadav, Prof Ankit Agarwal and other faculty members of the department.

Prof Günther was apprised about the ongoing activities in the dept. and COPREPARE project through a series of presentations and discussions at the Department of Hydrology. He was also invited to the Centre of Excellence in Disaster Mitigation and Management (CoEDMM) where Prof Sumit Sen, Head of CoEDMM gave an informative presentation on Centre’s objectives, ongoing activities, future plans and prospective areas of collaboration between the University of Potsdam and IIT Roorkee.

Prof Günther was also given a tour of Tinkering Lab and TIDES Business Incubator at IIT Roorkee. He was given a detailed walk-through of different facilities at the Tinkering lab. The group at TIDES incubator was also involved with the discussion on scope and prospects of collaboration between the two institutes in the areas of industrial research and innovation.

Prof Günther also visited the International Relations (IR) office at IIT Roorkee where he was welcomed by Prof P Arumugam, Dean International Relations.

Prof Günther unveiled the Logo of 175th year anniversary of IIT Roorkee.

Prof Günther also interacted with the staff at the IR and also involved in discussion on prospective joint activities between the University of Potsdam and IIT Roorkee, which can be facilitated by the IR offices of the two institutes.

The board room meeting with Prof Günther was organized with the Director, IITR Prof Ajit K Chaturvedi, Deans, HoD Hydrology, Head CoEDMM and Co-PI COPREPARE project to summarize the earlier discussions and to draw a road map for materializing the discussed plans.

Prof Günther’s visit to IIT Roorkee was concluded with the tours of Medlicott Museum in the Earth Sciences dept and IIT Roorkee Archives at MGCL library. Prof Günther thanked the Director, Deans and other faculty members for the hospitality at IIT Roorkee and signed off with the assurance that the two institutes will continue to work together to broaden their partnership and keep exploring avenues of future collaborations.
