Prof. Eric C. Rasmussen from University of Nevada visited 11th March 2022 for the verification of rare document of Shakespeare’s First Folio.
Prof. Rasmussen is the editor of the catalogue raisonné, The Shakespeare First Folio: A Descriptive Catalogue, the definitive listing of all known copies of the book worldwide, published by Palgrave Macmillan in 2012. He has been authenticating new copies of the First Folio including the copy that was discovered in the north of France in 2014. Prof Rasmussen during his visit to the library examined Shakespeare’s First Folio copy at IIT Roorkee and also recorded its watermarks, press variants, annotations, and information about its binding, restoration, and provenance for inclusion in the next edition of the catalogue, giving the only known copy in India its proper place in this reference work.
Prof. Rasmussen also delivered a lecture on “The Mystery of the Shakespeare First Folio” at the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences and also engaged in interaction with the faculty and PhD students there.
Prof. Rasmussen was also invited by the Dean of International Relations, Prof P Arumugam at the Office of International Relations to discuss the possibilities of collaboration between IIT Roorkee and the University of Nevada, USA.
