The International Relations Office, IIT Roorkee, was pleased to host a high-level delegation from the University of Adelaide (UoA), Australia, on August 29, 2025, to further strengthen academic and research collaborations between the two institutions.
The visiting delegates included:
- Dr. Amit Srivastava, School of Architecture and Civil Engineering
- Professor Alan Collins, School of Physics, Chemistry and Earth Sciences
- Dr. Fiona Whelan, School of Biological Sciences
- Dr. Mergen Ghayesh, School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering
- Mr. Daniel Tackage, Global Partnerships Manager
During their visit, the delegation engaged in a series of productive interactions across IIT Roorkee’s academic departments & Centres:
Dr. Amit Srivastava, along with Mr. Daniel Tackage, visited the Department of Architecture & Planning and the Centre for Space Science and Technology, where they met with Prof. Mahua Mukherjee, Head of the Department, along with faculty members of Architecture & Planning, and with Prof. S. H. Upadhyay, Head of the Centre, along with faculty members of the Centre, to explore joint initiatives in sustainable urban planning and space applications.
Prof. Alan Collins met with Prof. Sandeep Singh, Head of the Department of Earth Sciences, and faculty members to discuss potential collaborations in earth system sciences and geoscience research.
Dr. Fiona Whelan interacted with the Department of Biosciences & Bioengineering, meeting Prof. Sanjay Ghosh, Head of the Department, to identify opportunities for collaboration in life sciences and biotechnological innovations.
Dr. Mergen Ghayesh visited the Department of Electrical Engineering, where he met Prof. Bhavesh R. Bhalja, Head of the Department, along with faculty members, to discuss possibilities in advanced electrical and mechanical engineering research. He also visited the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, meeting Prof. Akshay Dvivedi, Head of the Department, and faculty members to explore collaborative opportunities in mechanical systems and industrial applications.
Mr. Daniel Tackage, along with Dr. Amit Srivastava, engaged with the Department of Architecture & Planning and TIDES, IIT Roorkee, meeting Dr. Azam Ali Khan, Head of TIDES, and faculty members to explore pathways for innovation, start-up incubation, and industry partnerships.
The delegation, accompanied by Prof. Vimal Chandra Srivastava, Dean of International Relations, also called on Prof. K. K. Pant, Director, IIT Roorkee, in the James Thomason Building. The meeting focused on expanding avenues of academic cooperation, joint research, and faculty-student exchanges between IIT Roorkee and the University of Adelaide.
The International Relations Office further facilitated a roundtable discussion between the visiting delegates and IIT Roorkee faculty members, including Prof. Vimal Chandra Srivastava, Dean IR; Prof. Sandeep Singh, Head, Department of Earth Science; Prof. Vimal Kumar (Department of Chemical Engineering) and Dr. Shantanu Wahal (Consultant, International Cooperation).
Through this visit, IIT Roorkee and the University of Adelaide have taken forward their shared vision of expanding international collaborations, driving impactful research, and enriching academic outcomes.
