Dr Amresh Kr Singh, MP (Nepal) visited IIT Roorkee

Dr Amresh Kumar Singh, Member of Parliament, Nepal visited IIT Roorkee and interacted with Director, Dean (International Relations), students, staff and faculty members. Each year large number of International students enroll to different academic programs and a significant number of these students come from Nepal.

Recently, institutional collaboration between Tribhuvan University, Nepal and IIT Roorkee has enhanced multifold, with faculty exchange and student visits including curriculum development. IIT Roorkee laso has a large international alumni base in Nepal and last year, commemorated the 175th year of IIT Roorkee’s foundation with an International Alumni meet in Kathmandu, graced by the presence of Hon’ble Minister of Education, Science and Technology (Nepal), Shri. Devendra Paudel.

With the vision to reinforce these ties and extending it further, Dr Amresh Kumar Singh, Member of Parliament, Nepal visited IIT Roorkee.

During the meeting with Prof K.K.Pant (Director, IIT Roorkee), both sides discussed ways to enhance academic cooperations. Dr A.K. Singh also visited the International Relations Office and interacted with Prof V.C. Srivastava ( Dean of International Relations) and Executive Officers, Dr Shantanu Wahal and Dr Ravikant Ranjan.

Dr Amresh K. Singh had close interactions with Mr Anish Kumar Singh, Convener of the International Student Affairs Council (ISAC). ISAC is International Student’s representative bodyworking as a formal bridge between international students and IIT Roorkee administration. ISAC works in collaboration with the Dean of International relations to address international students’ issues and take initiatives for the betterment of the students community of IITR.

Apart from a large number of regular International students from Nepal, IIT Roorkee also trains large number of Government officers from Nepal, for professional enhanment. Most  of these officers were from weather forecast, Dams safety,Irrigation and Water Resources management and Department of Hydropower plant. Dr A.K. Singh had interactive meeting with these officers from Nepal. After training, they contribute to Nepal’s educational and economic development as highly skilled and competent professionals.
