DST Africa initiative
Government of India is proactively engaging with Africa on a continental level to develop a sustainable relation that will generate long term goodwill for India in Africa under Africa India Forum Summit III. For effective leveraging the soft prowess of Science and Technology for our engagements with Africa DST proposed collaboration with World Bank to strengthen Africa Centres of Excellence (ACE's) established in African countries with the assistance of World Bank.

Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute
The Shastri Institute is funded by and partners closely with government bodies both in India and Canada. The aim is to further the bi-national ethos through different programmes facilitating scholarly research and exchanges between the Indian and Canadian Universities, Cultural organisations, Government Bodies and United Nations Millennium Development Goals.
IC-IMPACTS
IC-IMPACTS (the India-Canada Centre for Innovative Multidisciplinary Partnerships to Accelerate Community Transformation and Sustainability) is the first, and only, Canada-India Research Centre of Excellence established through the Canadian Networks of Centres of Excellence (NCE) as a new Centre dedicated to the development of research collaborations between Canada and India.
SATU Presidents' Forum of Southeast Asia and Taiwan Universities
The "Presidents' Forum of Southeast Asia and Taiwan Universities" provides a venue for academics to share their valuable experiences to improve higher education and international cooperation in the region.
HERITAGE NETWORK
The "HERITAGE NETWORK" aims to strengthen Higher Education Cooperation (research and training), Develop academic and research exchanges between partner institutions, and foster high level educational programmes in Engineering, Sciences, Design and Technology between Europe and India. Organize yearly workshops on scientific and technical topics of mutual interest.
United States-India Educational Foundation
The United States – India Educational Foundation (USIEF) promotes mutual understanding between the nationals of India and the U.S. through the educational exchange of outstanding scholars, professionals and students. Since its inception, USIEF has awarded approximately 20,000 Fulbright, Fulbright-Nehru, and other prestigious grants and scholarships in almost every academic discipline.
Tapping the talent of Fulbright students and scholars, USIEF holds dozens of academic or professional workshops each year. In addition to fellowship support, USIEF services include advising Indian citizens on higher education opportunities in the U.S. USIEF also consults with Indian and U.S. universities interested in developing linkages and exchanges.
Japan Society for the Promotion of Science
The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) was established in 1932. As Japan’s premier research funding agency, JSPS carries out a diverse program that includes funding scientific research, fostering young researchers, promoting international scientific exchange, and supporting the reform and globalization of universities. As JSPS works vigorously in carrying out this program, it focuses on supporting researchers in ways that give them a stable and sustainable environment for advancing their work.
Following is the list of JSPS awardees from IIT Roorkee.
Himalayan University Consortium
Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IITR) is a full member of the Himalayan University Consortium (HUC).
The Himalayan University Consortium (HUC) was formed to boost the slow pace of sustainable mountain development (SMD) in the Hindu Kush Himalayas (HKH), which was reasoned due to the lack of international cooperation and participation of research professionals who can undertake high-quality research. The HUC secretariat is based at ICIMOD, Kathmandu, Nepal.
Being a full member, following are the functional points for IITR in the HUC.
- Scholarships and other activities that enable students and staff from the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IITR) to undertake research with/at the other HUC member institutions.
- Education development, including upgrading of existing curricula. Introducing new courses and new degrees related to sustainable mountain development.
- Joint development of field courses in the HUC.
- Training and capacity building of students and staff of member institutions through summer schools and other short courses in sustainable mountain development.
- Knowledge dissemination through producing high-quality research publications, proposing sessions at conferences, and organising meetings (i.e., conferences and workshops) at the international level.
- Planning of resource mobilisation (person and finance) to ensure the implementation of other functions.
As part of HUC, IITR will play a crucial role as a lead from the Indian side and a bridge for international partnerships on frontier areas of research, training, and development initiatives in the HKH. For more details, please find the Charter here.
Finnish Indian Consortia for Research and Education (FICORE)
FICORE is a network of higher education institutions from Finland and India collaborating in diverse fields of science and technology.
The vision of FICORE is to provide a foundation for stakeholders in higher education, industries, research, and policy from Finland and India to engage in meaningful and impactful joint initiatives that benefit society at large.
Russia India Network (RIN)
The idea of the Russian-Indian Network (RIN) creation was announced by the leading universities of both countries in autumn 2014. It also gained the support of the relevant Ministries of both states. The objectives of the Association include:

- Assistance in academic mobility among its members
- Formulation and realization of joint educational programs
- Elaboration of joint textbooks, etc.
- Organization of distance and e-learning education
- Conduct of joint scientific research
- Establishment of joint scientific labs and research centers
- Preparation of joint scientific articles
- Conduct of joint educational and scientific events (conferences, seminars, etc.)
- Cooperation with the employers from both countries in terms of qualified specialists training
SAADRI Network
SAADRI is the Regional Alliance dedicated to addressing the need for disaster risk reduction and climate-change-induced risk resilience in the South Asia region. SAADRI has been a platform for alliance partners to seek collective contributions through different activities since its inception on 6th November 2020. SAADRI has member countries from South Asia and beyond with the common purpose of risk reduction in the globally most vulnerable and risk-prone region.
The SAADRI Secretariat organizes activities like Training and Conferences, publishes collaborative science articles, and publishes Newsletter. SAADRI has membership across five categories- Intuitional, Individual, Student Associate, and Donor.
SAADRI has six Working Groups (WGs) dedicated to collaborative action-oriented research in six specific fields of disaster risk reduction based on current research needs:
- WG I- Earthquake and Landslide Early Warning System (ELEWS)
- WG II- Flood, Cyclone and Tsunami Early Warning System (FCTEWS)
- WG III- Critical Infrastructure Resilience (CIR)
- WG IV- Participatory Community Resilience (PCR)
- WG V- Nature-Based Resilience (NBR)
- WG VI- Climate Change Impact on Environment and Health (CCIEH)
The SAADRI-Young Professional Platform (SAADRI-YPP), gives a platform to the young members to take the lead to spread awareness of disaster preparedness in the region.
