Co-PREPARE Master’s Exchange scholarship 2023-24

Collaborative Indo-German PRoject on Estimating and Predicting NAtural Hazards in the Himalayan Region (Co-PREPARE) is a research project funded by UGC (India) and DAAD (Germany) between IIT Roorkee and the University of Potsdam. Under this project within two years ~50 original research publications & conference participation, organized 2 international symposiums/conferences, and 18 lectures under the UDAN lecture series have been organized, Masters students from both UP and IITR visited under a semester exchange program. Below are the students from IITR who benefited from the last two year’s call from the Master's Exchange Scholarship:

Objective

The Co-PREPARE Master’s Exchange scholarship (04 students) offers support for the Semester exchange (October 2023-March 2024) programme as part of their master’s thesis under the guidance of a German professor at the University of Potsdam, GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences, and Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), Germany.

No acceptance letter is required at the time of application. DO NOT CONTACT ANY GERMAN FACULTY MEMBER DIRECTLY. IT WILL RESULT IN DISQUALIFYING YOUR APPLICATION.


Who can apply?

Students of IIT Roorkee working in the broad geoscience domain with research interests in geosciences, hydrology, climatology, social sciences, and more specifically (but are not limited to), water or water-induced hazards—such as floods, landslides and droughts; climate change, remote sensing, data science, adaptation and mitigation of hazards in the Himalayan region (and/or downstream regions).


  1. Students in the 2nd semester of their 2-year Master’s programme or 4th Semester of their 3-year master’s programme or the 8th semester of an integrated/dual degree programme.
  2. CGPA in the first semester of M.Tech above 7.5.
  3. GATE scores must be above average.
  4. Indian national with a valid passport and matching details.
  5. Must not be availing any parallel funding during the exchange period
  6. German language skills are not required at the time of application.
  7. Very good proficiency in the English language is expected.
  8. Research work shall focus on the broader domain of Natural Hazards and Risks in the Himalayan Region

Funding Details:

  1. Scholarship for 6 months (from October 2023-March 2024), €1000/ month or equivalent in INR (€1= Rs80)
  2. Payments towards VISA Fee
  3. A travel grant (to and fro) up to €1050

  • 3. Grade transcripts
  • 4. Expectations and contribution to the Co-PREPARE project

Last date to apply with complete Documents: February 28, 2023.

STUDENTS SHALL NOT CONTACT ANY GERMAN FACULTY DIRECTLY. IT WILL RESULT IN DISQUALIFYING YOUR APPLICATION.


Results will be announced by 05 April 2023. The decision of the Selection Committee of the Co-PREPARE will be final.
